Teri Hogg, Jumpstart Site Manager
Teri Hogg is the site Manager for Jumpstart, overseeing the operations of the campus program while also pursuing graduate studies in Early Childhood Education. She teaches Educ 490, Literacy Development and the Young Child, which Jumpstart corps members include in the course studies as a means to receive academic credit for their experience. She works closely with students who mentor preschool children within their program partner classroom. Teri visits the classrooms on a regular basis to provide coaching and mentoring while ensuring the success of the program.
In previous years Teri was the field supervisor for the Project Great Start research program, overseeing assessment and data management processes. Teri has served on several early childhood research teams as a research assistant specializing in child and classroom assessment, including Ready To Learn, the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study and NAEPS.
Prior to her career in applied research, Teri spent 12 years as a teacher for Head Start, and continues to pursue her interests in and commitment to early childhood education.

Susan Neuman, Campus Champion
Susan B. Neuman is a Professor of Educational Studies at the University of Michigan, specializing in early literacy development. She received her doctorate at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California in 1977, and her B.A. at American University. Susan is involved in a number of research projects all working to change the odds for children in poverty.
Recent publications include Nurturing Knowledge: Building a foundation for school success by linking early literacy to math, science, art and social studies (with Kathy Roskos) (2007); and Reading to your young child: A parent's guide (with Tanya Wright) (2007).

Student Involvement Coordinator
Maddie Dooley is a Sophomore studying communications and sports management. She is in the Michigan Learning Community Adelia Chever and head of the alumni relations committee. She enjoys sports, music, friends and family.
Team Leaders
Nehal Patel is a Senior obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology. She is a sister in Alpha Gamma Delta and is the Public Relations Chair for the 2009. This is her first year at Jumpstart and first as a Team Leader. Her future plans involve pursuing a career in Health and Medicine. Nehal like to read, watch movies, play sports, and enjoy life.
Laura Herold is a Masters student in Early Childhood Education. She has an undergraduate degree in German and Musicology from Oberlin College. In the past Laura has worked for both Boys and Girls Club and YMCA after school programs, and also worked to prepare teacher resources and organize teacher training events in the UK. Before beginning the Masters program, Laura was a preschool teacher in Ann Arbor for several years.
Elizabeth Griffin is a Master's student in the School of Information, as well as working toward teacher certification through the School of Education. She has worked with preschool and kindergarten children for over five years in a wide variety of settings, including a U of M preschool, a school-readiness program for Latino immigrant children, and a nature center day camp. She hopes to work as a children's librarian or school media specialist after graduation.
Kacie Thomas is a Junior in studying elementary education. She is from a small town in Northern Michigan. This is Kacie's second year in Jumpstart, her first as a Team Leader. She is currently a member of Alpha Gamma Delta as well as Best Buddies, a program aimed at establishing relationships between college students and people with disabilities. In her free time she likes to listen to music, read, be with friends, and volunteer.
Liz Quesinberry is a Masters student in the Literacy, Language and Culture Program. She has an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language Education from The University of North Carolina. Liz has five years of teaching experience in North Carolina. She has taught first grade, adult ESL at a community college and ESL in an elementary school. She has worked in high-need areas in both urban and rural settings.
Anna Chase is an undergraduate in LSA, majoring in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science. Anna previously worked in Head Start, summer camps, and as a tutor in chemistry. Her volunteer efforts include Hospice and Dance Marathon. After graduation Anna's intentions include medical school. This is her second year with Jumpstart.
Parisa Behzadi, from Tulsa, OK, is a second year student studying "Arabic, Armenian, Persian, Turkish and Islamic Studies" while meeting the requirements for dental school. Parisa hopes to one day have a pediatric dental clinic. This is Parisa's second year with Jumpstart and her first year as team leader. Parisa is also a member of the Health Science Scholars Program, where she serves as a Peer Advisor to pre-health freshman.
Kelly Osika is a Sophomore at the University of Michigan. She is currently undecided but intends to pursue a degree in Brain, Behavior and Cognitive Sciences and later attend the School of Public Health. This is is her first year in Jumpstart.
Volunteer Coordinator
Ashley Martin, from Raleigh, North Carolina and is studying Violin Performance and Music Education. Previously, Ashley was a camp counselor at a music camp and had much experience organizing events and public speaking. She hopes to pursue a career teaching music to children. This is Ashley's second year as the Volunteer Coordinator.
